Care & Maintenance of Your Cedar Fence

Regular maintenance will preserve your cedar fence for years.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Although beautiful, cedar fences do come with the need for care to maintain the good looks. Within the first year of
installation, the wood may warp or check as it dries. Your cedar may gray out from the sun, if it’s left untreated. These
natural characteristics of wood such as: weathering, shrinking, cracking, warping, and splitting are not covered under
your Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. The best way to avoid these and get the most life out of your fence is to seal it
and to maintain it properly.

WHAT TO AVOID

White faucet with a droplet and a diagonal line crossing through it on a blue background, indicating no water or water shutoff.

Keep sprinklers from wetting the fence, which causes the wood to discolor and rot faster.

A blue square with two white outlined leaves crossed by a diagonal line, indicating a symbol for no plants or plant-free.

Bushes, vines, and sod should be kept off the fence.

A white outline of a pine tree with a diagonal line crossing through it on a blue background, indicating no trees or no wood.

Avoid letting trees or branches grow against the fence.

Cleaning:

Another way to make your fence last longer is to clean your fence once a year. Combine 3 quarts warm water, 1 quart oxygen
bleach and ¼ cup non-ammonia dish soap into a garden sprayer. Saturate the fence with the cleaning solution. Allow it to set on
the fence for about 10 minutes. Scrub any tough stains from the fence with a scrub brush. Rinse the fence clean with plain water from a garden hose.

If any mold or mildew forms on your fence, remove it immediately. Mold and mildew will eat away the wood if left untreated. Mix a solution of 4 oz. oxygen bleach and 1 gallon of hot water into a bucket. Scrub the mold and mildew from the fence with the
cleaning solution and a stiff scrub brush. Rinse the fence with plain water.
