Curb Appeal and Safety with a Backyard Fence

We recently completed a project for a homeowner who was looking for a safe and beautiful backyard. We sat down with the estimator who designed the space we built for this family and asked him a few questions about the project.

Setting the Scene

When we asked for a rundown of the project, the estimator explained:

“In this situation, the customer wants a fence on the back of his property to protect his little ones from getting into the county green space, yet he also wants increased visibility from the back deck. And on the front of the house, he wants to replace the old cedar gates and fence line with new dark-colored cedar to match the house.”

The customer’s vision was clear, safety for the kids, visibility of the green space, and curb appeal at the front.

The Customer’s Motivation

The estimator shared why this project mattered so much with our designer:

“The customer was motivated to make this change to his property. He had recently purchased it and it was one of the only properties without a fence on the back line. He had little children that he wanted to keep safe from wandering back there down the steep hill and possibly getting lost into the woods, yet he also wanted to keep the visibility into the green space, since that’s what made that property desirable.”

The lack of a back fence was a safety risk, and the failing gates at the front took away from the home’s appearance and long term property value.

The Project Scope

Our estimator broke it down simply:

“The project scope was using an aluminum fencing that’s like an ornamental style, the black with the metal, with the aluminum pickets. It’s gonna be rust and corrosion free. And the front, we went with a high quality tight knot cedar and steel gate frames and steel posts for increased longevity.”

This combination ensured durability, safety, and a finished look that matched the home.

Design Choices Made for This Home

The estimator then explained how our team adapted to unique challenges with the design:

“In this case, the customer had an idea of the fence line he wanted in the back, which is super helpful to us. He provided a photo. We were able to provide him with a product that matched that photo. He also had a slope that we needed to follow the grade on. The panels weren’t able to rack far enough with a particular style of post, but we were able to pivot and provide an alternative swivel bracket that still checked all of the boxes in the back.”

When the customer’s preferred material wasn’t available, we worked to find an alternative:

“He also wanted black vinyl, which is not available. And again, we were able to suggest a nice cedar that matched the rest of his fences and provide it pre-stained to match the future color of his home.”

The Results

According to the estimator, the project delivered both peace of mind and convenience:

“The major benefits that the customer’s gonna experience with this is increased curb appeal with the new fences and gates along the house. Both gates will no longer rub and stick, which can be frustrating going in and out. And also, the safety and security with the new fence in the backyard and not having to worry about his little ones in the backyard possibly getting through into the forest in the back.”

The home is now safer, more functional, and visually complete.
