Increase Curb Appeal With a Hybrid Cover

We recently sat down with our estimator, Mike, to talk through one of our favorite patio cover projects from this season. This one stood out not just because of how good it looks, but because of how thoughtfully it was designed around the homeowners, their brand new paver patio, and how they actually wanted to use their backyard.

This project features what we call a hybrid patio cover, a design that combines a natural wood framework with an Acrylite roof system. According to Mike, it checked every box.

“They had just installed a brand new paver patio, and it’s full sun back there,” Mike explained. “They wanted at least the option to be outside comfortably, whether it was too sunny or even raining.”

Designing for Flexibility, Not Just Shade

One of the first things Mike focused on was giving the homeowners options instead of covering the entire patio.

“I recommended trying to create different spaces, or different rooms,” he said. “You can have a spot where you’re in full sun, and another area that’s covered. That way, you really get the best of both worlds.”

This approach is something we often recommend. A hybrid patio cover doesn’t overwhelm the space, it enhances it. Part of the patio becomes a true outdoor room, while the rest stays open and flexible.

“You don’t have to cover your entire space,” Mike noted. “You can be more strategic and still enjoy everything your patio offers.”

Why They Chose an Acrylite Hybrid Patio Cover

A big part of the design conversation centered on light. With large windows and doors facing the patio, the homeowners didn’t want the interior of their home to feel dark.

“We talked about whether they wanted full shade, like a solid roof, or if they wanted light to still come through,” Mike said. “That was really important to them.”

That’s where the Acrylite roof system came in.

“They really liked that these Acrylite patio covers let light through,” he explained. “It protects you from the weather, but it doesn’t make everything feel closed in or gloomy.”

The hybrid design took it one step further.

“This is actually a hybrid version of the Acrylite patio cover,” Mike said. “You still get the benefits of the roof system, but the framework is wood, which really softens the look and creates a more natural vibe.”

Natural Materials That Fit the Space

The homeowners’ backyard already had a warm, natural feel, and the hybrid patio cover fit right in.

“They didn’t want it to feel too modern or industrial,” Mike explained. “The wood framework just blended perfectly with their setting.”

This is one of the biggest advantages of a hybrid patio cover over a fully aluminum system.

“Aluminum is great,” Mike said, “but wood gives you a different feel. It creates warmth and makes the space feel more like a true outdoor living room.”

Built for Personalization

Another reason this project worked so well was versatility.

“With the wood framework, there’s a lot more you can do,” Mike said. “Things like hanging lights, shades, or even plants, it gives you more structure to play with.”

He shared a simple tip for homeowners considering a patio cover:

“One tip I’d give is to think about how you want to personalize it. If you’re planning on hanging heavier items or adding features later, a hybrid cover like this gives you more flexibility.”

Solving Installation Concerns the Right Way

Because everything in this backyard was brand new, the homeowners had understandable concerns.

“They were worried about attaching the cover to new siding and installing posts without compromising their new paver patio,” Mike said.

These are details we plan for carefully.

“We spent a lot of time talking through how we’d attach everything in a way that wouldn’t cause problems now or down the road,” he explained.

Designed Entirely Through Video and Phone

One of the most unique parts of this project? Mike never met the homeowners in person during the design phase.

“They sent over a quick video walking through their backyard and explaining what they were thinking,” Mike said. “I took that and created some initial design ideas.”

From there, everything came together through calls and video meetings.

“We tweaked and molded the design until it was exactly what they wanted,” he said. “It shows how effective video consultations can be, especially when distance or schedules make in-person meetings tough.”

Why This Project Was a Favorite

When asked what stood out most, Mike didn’t hesitate.

“One thing I love about this project is it takes a nice large patio and creates kind of an all-purpose room for all kinds of weather.”

That’s exactly what a hybrid patio cover is meant to do, add function without taking away from the space.

“It gives part of the patio a real purpose,” Mike said, “and turns it into a year-round outdoor living area.”

For us, this project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design, the right materials, and clear communication can come together to create something truly special. If you’re considering a patio cover and want flexibility, natural style, and long-term usability, a hybrid patio cover is absolutely worth a look.
