At Cascade Fence and Deck, we’ve seen time and time again how a well-designed outdoor space can completely change the way homeowners use and enjoy their property. When we spoke with Evan Davis about his experience, it became clear that this deck wasn’t just a renovation—it was a lifestyle upgrade.
A Space to Start the Day Right
One of the first things we asked Evan was how he and his family actually use their outdoor space. His answer was simple: “It’s really the relaxation. We grab a cup of coffee in the morning and sit out there on the deck and just listen to the birds chirp. It’s really nice.”
We’ve seen this a lot—homeowners don’t just want a deck, they want a space that enhances their daily routine. For the Davis family, that means a peaceful start to the day, sitting in their outdoor space and taking in the natural surroundings.
Year-Round Enjoyment, Rain or Shine
One of the biggest additions to their deck project was a patio cover, something that Evan says has completely changed how they use the space. “That’s a big bonus. It gives a little sun protection on the hot days, especially in the summer, and keeps us cool. But we can also enjoy it in the winter when it’s raining—we can have a little bonfire and enjoy a rainy evening without getting wet.”
This is something we hear often from customers. A deck is great, but a patio cover makes it a true all-weather space. Instead of being stuck inside when the weather isn’t perfect, the Davis family can now enjoy their backyard no matter the season.
Opening Up the View and the Space

One of the major changes from their old deck to the new one was the railing. Evan described the old deck as “cedar with a hard block railing, so the visibility was really limited, especially from inside the house looking outside.”
With the new wire railing, the entire backyard feels more open. “We can actually see everything. We can see our green space behind the house. It makes the whole space feel bigger.” This is a huge reason why many of our customers choose wire railings—they don’t just improve the look of the deck, they completely change the feel of the backyard.
Safety and Peace of Mind for the Whole Family
For Evan and his wife, one of the biggest factors in their renovation was safety. Their old deck was cedar and “falling apart, the railing was wobbly, and we had concerns for our children—splinters, falling, hurting themselves.”
We hear this concern a lot, especially from families. A deck should be a place to relax, not something that requires constant maintenance or worry. The switch to composite decking gave them peace of mind. “We don’t have to worry about getting splinters anymore, and the maintenance is so much less.”
Finding the Right Fit
The Davis family took their time with this project, getting multiple quotes and carefully researching their options. “We went through probably six or seven different companies. It was a three- or four-month process, figuring out exactly what we wanted.”
Ultimately, what made them choose Cascade wasn’t just the price, but the process. “Cascade sent us a very cool 3D rendering of what the deck would look like, which no other company had provided. That was really helpful.”
They also appreciated the flexibility and lack of sales pressure. “Some companies were really pushy, like, ‘You have to sign now or the price will go up!’ Cascade was never like that. It was just a casual back-and-forth conversation.”
A Project That Pays Off Every Day
Now that the work is done, Evan says the investment was absolutely worth it. “We are 100% satisfied. We’re out there whenever we can—grilling, having the kids play, or just relaxing. It’s a really nice enhancement to our house.”
When we asked him what advice he’d give to other homeowners thinking about a backyard renovation, he didn’t hesitate: “Take your time. Don’t feel rushed—it’s a big investment. Get a lot of quotes and do your research.”
For the Davis family, this wasn’t just a home improvement project—it was a way to create a space they truly love. And for us, that’s exactly why we do what we do.
